Dardsley – World War I
Dr Sydney Sharples served on the front as a captain in the West Lancashire Field Ambulance service.
In April 1916 an old and sick Dr Thomas Sharples wrote to the War Office to plead that his son be sent home to help with his many patients in Lostock Hall, Penwortham and Walton-Le-Dale.
Remarkably the War Office agreed to the request.
